Why I Became a Financial Planner

By Amy Braun-Bostich, MSFP, CFP®, CFS®, APMA®, CLTC®

When it came time to choose a career path, I knew that whatever job I pursued needed to be in line with my passions. Most importantly, I wanted to serve others; to help people in a tangible way and add value to their lives. Working in the financial world checked both of those boxes—and now, more than 30 years later, I’m still just as passionate about what I do!

Getting Started

I didn’t necessarily know that I wanted to be a financial advisor right off the bat. In fact, I originally studied psychology in college and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of California Los Angeles in 1981.

Over time, however, I realized that the financial industry could be the perfect mix of numbers, analysis, strategy, and meaningful human connection that I was looking for. I wanted to help others grow and create wealth, so I went back to school to earn a Master of Science in Financial Planning. In 1994, I officially earned my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation and started my career as a financial advisor at Ameriprise Financial Services.

I took the plunge into the financial world and have never looked back! I am passionate because people need clarity and guidance to achieve their financial goals.

A lot of people want to “do it themselves,” but this involves many factors they might not even realize. My goal is to help everyday people learn more about what is possible with their wealth and how to make the most of their hard work.

My Career Today

Over the last 30 years, my career has grown tremendously. I’ve obtained several certifications in addition to CFP®, including Accredited Portfolio Manager Advisor (APMA®), Certified Fund Specialist (CFS®) and Certification in Long-Term Care (CLTC®).

In 2017, after 26 years at Ameriprise, I decided to take another plunge and start my own wealth management firm called Braun-Bostich & Associates. Our mission is to help our clients create greater opportunities for themselves by leveraging our exceptional capabilities. In doing so, our clients are able to transcend their notion of what is possible.

It has been such a fulfilling journey to finally branch out on my own, and in 2022, I was named one of Pennsylvania’s Top Women Wealth Advisors by Forbes’ Best-In-State list.

Why I Love What I Do

I love what I do because I truly enjoy watching clients achieve their financial goals and make the most of their retirements. My clients depend on me, and I love being able to serve them with compassion and transparency. I feel honored that clients trust me with their financial hopes, dreams, and fears, and that together, we can come up with a strategy that brings them comfort and confidence for years to come.
